Imbolc & the first day of Spring

Inspired by St Brigid’s Day and the Celtic festival of Imbolc, which traditionally mark the beginning of spring in Ireland, DIAS will be profiling some inspiring female researchers from its disciplines in the lead-up to International Women’s Day on 8th March.

We will be focusing on influential women from the history of Celtic Studies, both at DIAS, where we have a world-leading hub in the discipline, and more broadly. Below you can see a series of videos in which current researchers at DIAS tell us about one of these inspiring figures and give us an insight into her legacy.

In case you missed it, last week, our Registrar and CEO, Dr Eucharia Meehan, MRIA, was interviewed by the Heritage Council for International Day of Women and Girls in Science as part of a podcast on Dr Sheila Power Tinney, the first Irish woman to achieve a PhD in mathematical science and one of the first postdoctoral fellows to be appointed by DIAS after its establishment in 1940.
