Warning messages from the magnetometer network last March notified scientists of the onset of a large geomagnetic storm which resulted in such dramatic displays of the northern lights in Ireland and Britain. The effects of this solar storm will be discussed this week (7th and 8th July) at one of the world’s largest astronomical meetings in Wales.
