Title: The Swampland and string universality
Abstract: The Swampland program aims to determine which effective field theories can arise as the low-energy limit of a consistent quantum theory of gravity, using general principles such as absence of global symmetries or unitarity. I will provide a brief introduction to the program and describe a recent application of the principles which, in combination with supersymmetry, can be used to shown that the only consistent low-energy limit of theories of gravity in more than 7 dimensions are exactly those predicted by string theory, as well as briefly comment on consequences for the Standard Model.
