Research Interests

Early Modern and Modern Irish, Old and Middle Irish. Early Modern Irish prose and Modern Irish dialects. Translation literature.

Biographical Sketch

Andrea completed his BA in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic Studies in the University of Cambridge in 2014, after which he started a PhD on the Irish Adaptation of Marco Polo’s Travels from the Book of Lismore in the Modern Irish department of University College Cork, under the supervision of an t-Oll. Pádraig Ó Macháin, which he was awarded in 2018. In September 2018 he joined the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies as a post-doctoral scholar.

Current Project

Andrea is preparing a new edition of the Irish adaptation of Marco Polo’s Travels, which will be accompanied by a linguistic introduction. He is also publishing his research on this text in the form of journal articles. Since beginning work in the institute, Andrea has been collaborating on the Glór project, which aims to digitise and publish archive recordings of Irish speakers made by the School of Celtic studies during the 1950s and 1960s.
