CONTINENTAL DEFORMATION:
Constraints from anisotropy;
kinematics; dynamics.
13-14 November 2008
Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies
10 Burlington Road, Dublin 4
New capabilities of seismology, including our emerging ability to map 3-D distributions of anisotropy at the scale of tectonic units, yield new opportunities for constraining the kinematics of continental deformation. During this workshop we would like to:
- review the recent developments and what we may be learning thanks to those, regarding how the deformation works
- discuss how we can best use seismic and other data to constrain anisotropy and, from that, the kinematics of deformation
- discuss how to best combine the information from seismology and MT with that from tectonics, rock physics and geodynamics
- try to formulate important continental deformation questions which we can now make more progress towards answering and which we can focus on in the nearest future, possibly in collaborative projects
