Festival of History – The Impact and Legacy of Erwin Schrödinger´s ´What is Life?´

Prof Luke O’Neill will guide us through the history of DIAS’s first Director of Theoretical Physics contributions during his time in Dublin. This will include an online screening of the ‘Thinking Outside the Box – Schrödinger in Ireland´ documentary.

As part of its DIAS’s 80th anniversary celebration, and the Festival of History, we invite you to an online screening of Prof Luke O’Neill’s documentary on Erwin Schrödinger’s achievements in Dublin, ‘Thinking Outside the Box – Schrödinger in Ireland’, followed by a discussion between Prof O’Neill and a panel of commentators and experts on the lasting impact and legacy of Schrödinger´s ‘What is Life?’ lectures and book to the present day.
About our Speaker
Luke O’Neill is Professor of Biochemistry in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He is a world expert on innate immunity and inflammation. He has received numerous awards and is a member of the Royal Irish Academy, EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organisation) and a Fellow of the Royal Society. Luke has a passion for communicating science to the public and has a weekly radio slot on the Pat Kenny show on Newstalk. In 2018 he published with Gill the best-selling ‘Humanology: a scientist’s guide to our amazing existence’. This October sees the publication also with Gill of ‘The Great Irish Science Book’, a Science book for 10-12 year olds.
