Samhain agus Science: Ní hAnsae: the story so far. Podcasting Ireland’s Celtic past

28th October 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Previous DIAS O’Donovan Scholar, Dr Nike Stam opens this years Samhain agus Science festival, describing the challenges of bringing Celtic Studies to new audiences.

Dr Nike Stam, creator of the School of Celtic Studies Podcast, joins us to talk about the challenge of bringing research in Irish and Celtic Studies to new audiences. She will tell us how podcasting helped young researchers during lockdown and how it might inspire the researchers of the future. Along the way, she may also tell us why the podcast is called Ní hansae (`not difficult’).

About Dr Nike Stam, Utrecht University

Nike Stam received her PhD in Celtic Studies from Utrecht University, in which she analysed medieval Latin-Irish code-switching. Between 2018 and 2021, she worked at the DIAS School of Celtic Studies as an O’Donovan Scholar, focusing on medieval multilingualism. She is currently employed at Utrecht University in a project that tries to unravel strange systems of spelling used in some medieval Irish manuscripts.

This will be an online event hosted via Zoom. Registration is required. Attendance links will be delivered via email on the day of the event.
