Biographical Sketch

Jonathan Mackey studied at NUI Galway, received a Masters thesis at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and in 2010 completed his PhD at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies working with Andrew Lim and Tom Ray.  He spent 5 years working as a postdoctoral researcher in Germany, first as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in the group of Norbert Langer at the University of Bonn, and then in the group of Stefanie Walch-Gassner at the Unversity of Cologne.  He was awarded one of the first Royal Society-SFI University Research Fellowships to establish a research group at DIAS to investigate “Massive Stars in the Interstellar Medium”, running from 2016 to 2020.
