2011-01-14 – SEMINAR by Alan D. Chave: A Tale of Three Patents

14 January, 2011 (16:00), 5 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.

Speaker: Alan D. Chave, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, U.S.A
Title: A Tale of Three Patents

Abstract:

Over the past three years, the presenter has served as an expert witness in the Netherlands, the UK High Court and the European Patent Office regarding three patents about the use of controlled source electromagnetics to search for hydrocarbon reservoirs on the seafloor. This talk will outline the issues in the case, describe the real physics behind the patents (which contain nonsense physics) and give a perspective on the patent system as it
currently exists.
