May 2011 – Professor Werner Nahm, Director of the School of Theoretical Physics, elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society

We are pleased to announce that Professor Werner Nahm, Director of the School of Theoretical Physics, was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society on 19 May 2011. The Royal Society is a Fellowship of the world’s most eminent scientists and is the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence. Professor Nahm is a world leader in quantum field-and in string theory and their mathematical aspects (he is the holder of several international prizes) and is a noted mathematician. He has achieved what is perhaps the ultimate accolade for a scientist; he has equations named after him – Nahm Equations. He has contributed to feasibility studies of the exploitation of renewable energy sources and among his many gifts is his fluency in languages including mandarin Chinese. Professor Nahm is a member of the Council of the Institute and Director of the School of Theoretical Physics. He is Senior Professor within the School.
