Fergus Kelly, Senior Professor at the School of Celtic Studies, was awarded the Derek Allen prize in Celtic Studies by the British Academy on 8 November 2012. This annual award is made in turn in Musicology, Numismatics and Celtic Studies. In the citation, it is stated that Professor Kelly is distinguished as an editor of early Irish texts and as the person who made early Irish law widely accessible. Mention is made of his editions of two Old Irish poems in praise of St Columba (1973, 1975), his edition of a text of instruction for kings, entitled Audacht Morainn (1976), his Guide to Early Irish Law (1988), and his account of Early Irish Farming (1997).
