Title: Weighted Information and Weighted Entropy
Speaker: Yuri Suhov (Penn State University)
Abstract:
A standard definition of information and entropy involves probabilities of outcomes and events and makes no distinction between outcomes with equal probabilities (a context-free approach). I will review recent activities focused on weighted information and entropy where different outcomes generate different contributions moderated by a weight function. Using such an approach, new results can be achieved and new problems stated (and sometimes solved). Time: 2pm, Wednesday 6th July 2016
