Research Projects Officer, Geophysics Section, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.

The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) is a statutory academic research institution funded directly by the Department of Education & Skills. DIAS invites applications for the above permanent post based in the Geophysics section of the School of Cosmic Physics. Working alongside the academic staff, the Research Projects Officer will support the research activities of the Geophysics Section particularly those related to the day-to-day management of externally funded research projects. Previous experience of day-to-day research project management in an academic research environment is essential. A background in Earth science is highly desirable.

Duties include:

  • Scoping potential research projects of interest to the Geophysics Section
  • Assisting the Section’s researchers in completing  technical and administrative aspects of research funding applications, in consultation with central administration
  • Coordinate and assist with project reporting, finances and post-award support for externally funded research projects
  • Supporting consortia partner and stakeholder engagement
  • General research administration and liaising with DIAS central support offices
  • Representing the Geophysics Section at stakeholder meeting both in Ireland and abroad.

Essential skills for the post:

  • Knowledge of project funding structures and systems in both the European Commission and national bodies
  • Experience of research project day-to-day management in an academic research environment
  • Strong verbal & written communication and organisational skills
  • Self-motivation, proactivity and problem solving skills
  • Strong office computer skills
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.

Highly Desirable skills:

Qualification in Earth sciences

Reporting to: Prof. Chris Bean, Head of Geophysics Section, School of Cosmic Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS).

Salary & duration: Salary range is €36,584-€48,227 PPC Scale (Non-PPC scale: €34,755-€45,816). The position is permanent with a probationary period of one year.
