The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) is offering a Senior Research Fellowship to work on the development of software and the analysis of data from both ESA’s Solar Orbiter and the Low Frequency Array (LOFAR). Solar Orbiter was launched from NASA Kennedy Space Center on February 9, 2020 and carries onboard a suite of instruments, including the Solar Telescope Imaging X-rays (STIX). LOFAR is a network of radio telescopes that is operated across Europe with a site at Birr Castle in Ireland.
The successful applicant will work on the development of software and the analysis of data from STIX and LOFAR. Ideally we are looking for applicants with experience in software design, Python, and the analysis of solar data from ground- and space- based instruments. They will also be involved in the training of PhD students.
This position is available for 2 years initially, with the possibility of an extension to 3 years. Remuneration is based on the SFI Senior Research Fellow scales and starting salary will depend on experience.
Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae and a cover letter by December 11, 2020. They should also include the names of two referees. Applicants must have have a PhD in solar physics and experience with software design and development.
DIAS is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
Applications, and submission enquiries, should be sent to Ms Eileen Flood (eflood@cp.dias.ie). Detailed enquiries regarding the project can be made to Prof Peter Gallagher (peter.gallagher@dias.ie).
