Elizabeth O’Dwyer

Name: Elizabeth O’Dwyer

Title: PhD Student

Email: elodwyer@cp.dias.ie

Address: School of Cosmic Physics, DIAS Dunsink Observatory, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, Dublin 15, Ireland.

Biographical Sketch:

Elizabeth obtained a BA in Physics & Astrophysics from Trinity College Dublin in 2021. She joined DIAS in September 2021 as a PhD student, working with Caitriona Jackman as part of the Planetary Magnetospheres group. She is co-supervised by Dr. Katarina Domijan at Maynooth University. Elizabeth’s research theme is machine learning for the classification of planetary radio emissions. She will use data from spacecraft including Cassini at Saturn, Juno at Jupiter, and Wind at Earth to examine radio emissions, and will employ image-based machine learning algorithms to select distinct features in the radio spectrograms. This will enable unambiguous separation of different radio signatures, including kilometric radiation, narrowband emissions, and solar type-III bursts.
