STP – Collection
The Collection and the Library Catalogue
The library contains a comprehensive collection of current journals and texts in the areas of mathematics and theoretical physics. Volumes from over 400 periodical titles are held, with 90 currently active subscriptions. Full text electronic access is available to over 70 of these titles. The book collection is comprised of nearly 10,000 volumes. The library also holds an extensive collection of preprints and reprints produced by past staff and scholars, some of which are also available on the website.
A portion of the library’s collection of books and journals are stored off-site. Requests for these items may be emailed to the librarian or a request form (found in the library) may be completed and left for the librarian.
Materials are catalogued using the Koha library management system:
STP – ALCID
ALCID: Academic Libraries Co-operating in Ireland
The Schools of Theoretical Physics and Cosmic Physics are now members of ALCID. ALCID is a co-operative access scheme whereby academic members of the Institute may access participating libraries on the production of a valid ALCID card. For further information on the scheme and with details of how to obtain an ALCID card see the information below or contact George Rogers, the Librarian, for members of Theoretical Physics or Ann Grace for members of Cosmic Physics.
ALCID is a co-operative access scheme between the Libraries of Dublin City University, University College Cork, National University of Ireland Galway, National University of Ireland Maynooth, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Royal Irish Academy, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College, Mater Dei Institute of Education, St Patrick’s s College Drumcondra, Dublin Institute of Technology and St. Angela’s College Sligo.
ALCID enables access to the collections of each of the participating libraries, without formality, on production of a common ALCID membership card for full-time academics, academic-related staff and registered students reading for postgraduate degrees.
To obtain an ALCID card, please contact the librarian, George Rogers.
Please note that when you visit other university libraries using your ALCID card you will be subject to their regulations, which may differ in detail from those of your home library. It would be wise to familiarise yourself with those regulations as any serious infringement of them may result in the imposition of penalties in your own university library. You will be asked to show your home library card when you visit another member Library. There is no borrowing or home reading permitted with your ALCID card.
A Brief Guide to ALCID Libraries (PDF 188 KB) contains a list of all ALCID libraries with important information as addresses, service hours or most significant collections.
STP – Library
Welcome to the library of the School of Theoretical Physics. The library is located on the lower ground floor and is accessible at all times to members of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. The library is open to ALCID members by appointment.
