Senior IT Support Administrator

The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) wishes to appoint an experienced Senior IT Support Manager who will join a small and highly dedicated team. The team is responsible for all aspects of planning, development and maintenance of IT infrastructure, for the delivery of desktop and local infrastructure service, and for the provision of end-user support to all our employees and researchers across our multi-sited organization. Reflecting the current and ever evolving nature of our research and administrative needs, the DIAS IT environment consists of a wide spectrum of systems and software. Our learning environment requires an avid interest in skills development and in emerging technologies.

Within this context, the role that is now available will primarily, but not exclusively, support the Office of the Registrar & CEO, Central Administration and the School of Celtic Studies. In these areas, users primarily work on Linux and Windows servers, accessing them via Linux-based thin clients. Linux and Windows standalone workstations backed by Linux-based network storage are also used where required.

The Senior IT Support Manager will support the enhancement, and strategic development, of our organisation through the:

•	Support of analysis of organisational requirements and translation into technical and/or administrative solutions.
•	Implementation of best practice, and the documenting of the configuration of current infrastructure services
•	Creation or modification of Standard Operating Procedures, and other policies
•	Provision of efficient and timely desktop, local infrastructure and end-user support,
•	Support of specific strategic infrastructures such as the Irish Script on Screen (ISOS)
•	Support of specific project work relating to the adoption of up to date and relevant technologies

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

•	A broad knowledge of infrastructure, network, security, cloud and DR technologies.
•	An ability to troubleshoot standard networking services and protocols, in addition to resolving complex technical issues
•	An experience with modern accountancy, HR and other administrative software, including the ability to review, automate existing business processes in these areas;
•	An ability to maintain modern Web applications
•	A solid understanding of Linux and Windows both at desktop and server level, including ideally fluency with the command line and good scripting skills
•	An ability to support business analysis, and follow through to required technical and administrative implementation
•	Proven experience of project management
•	Proven experience in the preparation of protocols and documentation
•	Excellent verbal and written skills
•	Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.

In addition, the following would be beneficial for a candidate:
•	An ability to design, configure and maintain heterogeneous systems consisting of several interoperating Linux and Windows machines
 
•	A good knowledge of virtualisation of Linux and Windows within Linux-based host environments and cloud based solutions
•	An experience with modern software and Web development;
•	A good practical knowledge of Mac OS X and/or other Unix flavours;
•	A good practical knowledge of computing and networking hardware.

The successful candidate would be expected to engage in mutual learning from the existing team to address skills needs.

Contract duration: An initial 5 year fixed term contract, with the possibility of a permanent appointment. Salary scale €52,356 - €61,740 p.a. (Personal Pension Contribution scale);  €49,739 -
€58,653 p.a. (Non- PPC scale for pre-existing public servants).	The starting salary will be in line with public sector regulations – new entrants to the public sector will be appointed on the minimum point.
