Maths Week: Einstein’s Relativity – Pythagoras for Space and Time
15th October 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Speaker: Ian Jubb (DIAS)
Einstein’s Theory of Relativity revolutionised the way we understand the universe. Its implications for the world around us are far reaching; from black holes and the Big Bang, to more everyday technology like GPS. One of its most intriguing features is that it has a very simple and elegant description in terms of mathematics.
With only a few basic concepts, and a little tweak to the Pythagoras formula, we can understand many of the mind-blowing consequences of Einstein’s famous theory.
Time: Thursday 15 October, 6pm
This talk will be presented online via Zoom. The link will be issued by email to those who have registered on the day of the event, 2 hours and again 10 minutes before the start of the event. The link will also be available on the day of the event within attendees Eventbrite accounts.
