Secretary, Geophysics Section, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.

The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) is a statutory academic research institution funded directly by the Department of Education & Skills. DIAS invites applications for the above permanent post based in the Geophysics section of the School of Cosmic Physics. The Secretary will provide administrative support to the Geophysics team and assist the Head of Section in the day-to-day running of the section. Previous administrative experience is essential.

The Section comprises a busy and dynamic environment of researchers working on a wide range of Earth science projects both in Ireland and across the World.

Duties include:

  • Meet and greet visitors
  • Induction of new students
  • Organising travel arrangements
  • Organisation for internal conferences/workshops
  • Ordering office & other supplies
  • Help in preparation of Section reports & other documentation
  • Help organise public outreach events
  • Maintain & modify the Section’s Web pages and twitter account
  • Have oversight of Health & Safety requirements
  • Work with financial spread sheets
  • Regularly engage with the Institute’s central administration
  • General administrative support for Head of Section, Staff and Students

Essential skills for the post:

  • Previous administrative experience
  • Strong verbal & written communication and organisational skills
  • Self-motivation, proactivity and problem solving skills

Highly Desirable:

Reporting to: Prof. Chris Bean, Head of Geophysics Section, School of Cosmic Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS)

Salary & duration: Salary range is €23,571-€39,110 New Entrants PPC (Non-New Entrants: PPC: €25,506-€39,110; Non-PPC€24,283-€37,426). The position is permanent with a probationary period of 1 year.
