An Evening of Meteors, Massive Stars and Citizen Science
3rd November 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
As part of the 2020 Samhain agus Science festival at Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS), our Astronomy & Astrophysics section will launch its Royal Society-funded Citizen Science meteor-spotting project.
Our researchers will be joined by special guests from TCD and the Irish Federation of Astronomical Societies for an evening of meteor-themed discussions which will describe the basics of meteor spotting, how the project links into the larger NEMETODE video-based meteor observation network, what astronomers can learn from the data and how the public can get involved. Two of our recent research interns will also tell us about how they are contributing to the project, from building an online platform for sharing the latest observations to an ambitious machine learning initiative to classify them.
This will be an online event presented via Zoom.
The link will be sent to those registered two hours before the start of the event.
Please email communications@dias.ie if you have any queries.
