Dublin Festival of History: The First North-South Agreement: The Armagh-Dunsink-Harvard Telescope 1947 (in-person event)
10th October 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free
The Armagh-Dunsink-Harvard telescope (ADH) was the first major international project undertaken by Dunsink Observatory following the observatory’s re-opening as part of DIAS’ School of Cosmic Physics (founded in 1947).
The ADH was the brainchild of Eric Lindsay, Director of Armagh Observatory, and resulted from the first cooperative agreement between Northern Ireland and Ireland during a period of little communications between the two jurisdictions.
Join speakers from Armagh Observatory & Planetarium, DIAS Dunsink Observatory, and a renowned historian, for this Dublin Festival of History event at DIAS Dunsink Observatory. Hear about the historic significance of the first cross-border agreement, the story of the telescope and its significance politically as well as for research and learning about space.
This event takes place as part of Dublin Festival of History 2022.
Dublin Festival of History is brought to you by Dublin City Council and organised by Dublin City Libraries, in partnership with Dublin City Council Culture Company.
