2015 Irish Quantum Foundations Meeting

The 2015 IQF meeting recently took place in the School of Theoretical Physics, DIAS from 27th to 29th May. There were 75 participants in total and more details can be found on the conference website.

Earthquake in Nepal 12th May 2015

A major M7.3 earthquake occurred in Nepal on 12th May at 07:05 UTC (12:50 local time), 80km east of Kathmandu.  This is an aftershock of the Mag 7.8 event of 25th April 2015.

27th January 2015 – DIAS physicist honoured with RIA Gold Medal

The Royal Irish Academy Gold Medal for Science has been awarded to one of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies professors of theoretical physics, Professor Werner Nahm.

23rd January 2015 – DIAS Scientists are part of international team who discover new high-energy objects in a neighbouring galaxy

A paper in the journal Science on 23 January 2015, carries news of three very high-energy objects that have just been discovered in our neighbouring galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud.

10th January 2015 – BTYSE 2015 GSI Prize Winners

Kinsale Community College, one of the participating schools in the DIAS Seismology in Schools Outreach Programme, recently won the Geological Survey of Ireland prize for the best geological project at the BT Young Scientist Technology Exhibition 2015.
